Satire

Satire blends with humor and criticism for the purpose of instruction. People use satire use satire and dont realize it. Satire is a funny thing. I say that because alot of people dont catch on to it as quickly. When people are being scarisitic they use satire. When people argue alot they end up using Satire. My mother and advisor uses satire all the time. I believe sometimes they think we dont catch on because we laugh. I catch on to that though. Satire can catch you up on your words. I believe that you should use satire when its suppose to be used not just for the fun in it. You shouldnt use satire all the time. Only give honor to satire when honor is due.

After the Emancipation Proclamation

The slaves are finally free! I am very excited. A huge amount of former slaves are moving up north. Their moving to areas like Detroit, Chicago and New York. I'm sure that a lot of people will be coming over the next 2weeks. I am happy that my people were set free. I'm kinda of worried because I read that Lincoln is not letting former slaves or "blacks" vote period. I believe that is unfair. why set us free if we don't have the equal amount of rights as every other race. Lincoln thought that slavery was wrong. So he let us free. Thats not a good enough reason for me. We still suffer because we want equal rights and we will do whatever we have to, to earn them.

I am so happy to be hearing that the slaves might be set free. Mr. Abraham Lincoln sure is doing all the slaves a favor. As I heard some others talking about the Emancipation Proclamation and how it was going to set the slaves free. They said they read it out of the newspaper. I aint got no proof of it myself so I just believe it will happen. If Mr. Lincoln himself will set the slaves free we will love him forever. He's going to give us our freedom. I wonder if the other slaves know about it down south. Well im greatful that i had an successful escape from slavery. Now im hoping that everyone is given the freedom rights they deserve.

Moses Roper: A day in the life of a slave

I, Moses Roper was born a slave in Caswell County, North Carolina. My father was a plantation owner and my mother was a slave. My mother tried to kill me days after I was born.My grandmother saved my life. Six years later my mother and I were split up by slave masters.

You never can tell what time it is so when the sun up I'm up when the sun down I'm down. Well actually I'm up sometimes when the sun down. This morning I woke up When the sun was on its way up. I live with 5 other people. Every morning I get 1 bowl of oatmeal then I'm off to work. First i report to my master to find out which one of his field i work in today. Once i find out I'm on my way. Along the way it get so hot it seem like the sun right next to you. I pick cotton from day to just about night with no break. I hum negro spirituals while i pick cotton. It just about keep me busy. Also I vision myself running far far away from here on one of my master boats or horses. I see it happening real soon. When you try something dangerous like that bad things come with that. I could beat until my skin fall off. Maybe they will kill me. If its worth my freedom I will try it. After picking cotton all day in the hot sun with mixed thoughts of running away and putting up with slavery I'm very tired. I go back to my hut where I'm able to lay down after being up all day. I can drink water and eat the one meal I have. I'm tired but have to do the same thing tomorrow. MAYBE!

How do I see my beliefs reflected in the government policies and by politican?

In my opinion how ever I feel about the government I know that Im not the only person feeling like that. I also believe that if the government hear worries and complaints about their decisions from a large population I believe they will work on that issue immediately. At least they will give us a better understanding of that decision. I believe they have to. Other than that they would just be making decisions without thinking. Every decision the government makes is to better our country. I dont think that rule has changed or is going to any time soon. Those are my beliefs on the government.

What is my responsibility to society?

My responsibility to society is to be a good citizen. To help the community get better. Help prevent crimes. To not get in trouble your self. To help and encourage others to do the right thing in their neigbhorhood. Communities coming together makes an peaceful society. First you have to start with your community and helping the people that make up that community get better. Rather if that recycling or keeping your lawn cut or even community patrol to prevent. In my opinion you don't have any extra responsibilities unless you make one for yourself.

What can i contribute as an individual?

As an individual I can contribute a lot. If its to my country or people in the community. You can still contribute a lot and bless people with the gifts he's given and challenges he put you through. I can contribute an experience to the youth and help them get out of certain citations. Encourage people to stay in school and not to give up any time soon. Its a lot to contribute. I can give back to my community in a lot of ways. I can help people with fundraisers. I can give back to the homeless. Me all by myself can do a lot in the world today. Everything I do will benefit someone in my community.
